These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Harman Kardon Luna 2 ranks #22 of 138 medium speakers by sound quality at $199.95; the Soundcore Boom 2 ranks #10 of 77 large speakers by sound quality at $129.99.
What the Harman Kardon Luna 2 offers: Articulate, spacious midrange with precise imaging and instrument separation. Tight, well-controlled bass from the 62mm x 82mm woofer and passive radiator despite the compact body, and it stays cleaner at volume than pricier rivals like the Sonos Play. The tradeoff: Treble can sound bright and edgy, and it loses more output off-axis than some rivals. Some listeners hear mid-range rattling on certain tracks, similar to sibling JBL models. 12-hour battery life trails category leaders like the JBL Charge 6, which doubles it.
What the Soundcore Boom 2 gets right: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. The catch: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels.
Buy the Harman Kardon Luna 2 at $199.95 if you want a medium speaker. Buy the Soundcore Boom 2 at $129.99 if you want a large speaker instead.
There is a real battery-life gap here: the Soundcore Boom 2 is rated for 24 hours, the Harman Kardon Luna 2 only 12 hours.

Soundcore Boom 2: $129.99 Amazon B&H Photo Video eBay
Pros: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble.
Cons: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, I’d recommend turning it off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.
