Short answer: the JBL Partybox 300 for sound, the Electro-Voice Everse 8 for size. The Partybox 300 sounds exceptional, with crisp, crystal clear highs and midranges and hard, punchy bass without muddiness, but it is hard to carry, too tall, and drags on the ground. The Everse 8 has good midrange and treble yet is not stereo.
One note: the JBL Partybox 300 is no longer sold new, but at #10 of 53 party speakers by sound quality it still outranks most current models, so used is worth considering. The JBL Partybox 300’s replacement, the JBL Partybox 330, is still sold new.
Buy the Electro-Voice Everse 8 at $799 if you want a battery-powered PA speaker. Buy the JBL Partybox 300 at $300 if you want a party speaker instead.
There is a real battery-life gap here: the JBL Partybox 300 is rated for 18 hours, the Electro-Voice Everse 8 only 12 hours.
There is a real gap in water resistance: the Electro-Voice Everse 8 at IP43 (light spray) against the JBL Partybox 300, which has no water resistance.
