These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Devialet Mania ranks #54 of 117 large speakers by sound quality at $899; the Sonos Era 100 ranks #16 of 29 powered desktop speakers by sound quality at $217.99.
The Devialet Mania is the battery-powered, tougher choice. A compact, good looking Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stereo speaker with Alexa built in and splash resistance. Its battery is rated for 10 hours, while the Sonos Era 100 needs an outlet. It is rated IPX4, while the Sonos Era 100 has no water resistance. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Sonos Era 100 lacks. The tradeoff: Not very loud.
What the Sonos Era 100 does well: A compact Wi-Fi smart speaker with stereo from two angled tweeters, Trueplay room tuning, Alexa and Sonos multiroom. It links with other speakers (Sonos multi-room, AirPlay 2), which the Devialet Mania cannot. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Devialet Mania lacks. The tradeoff: RTINGS’ own two listed cons are not loud enough for larger rooms and very little low-bass thump, so genres like EDM and hip-hop lack rumble even with the tone adjustments.
Buy the Devialet Mania at $899 for a large speaker, or the Sonos Era 100 at $217.99 for a powered desktop speaker instead.
