Bose SoundLink Max vs Soundcore Boom 2

Last updated: August 14, 2026

Short answer: the Soundcore Boom 2. It ranks #10 of 77 large speakers by sound quality at $89.99; the Bose SoundLink Max ranks #17 and costs $309.99, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

The case for the Bose SoundLink Max: it’s IP67 rated, rated for up to 20 hours of battery (with real-world testing finding 43+ hours), delivers deep, rich bass with neutral tuning and an app EQ, and its USB-C port doubles as a device charger with a sturdy carry handle. The catch: there’s a big peak in the upper bass, a dipped midrange with peaks and dips above it, it distorts above 80% volume, and by Bose’s own admission here its bass doesn’t go quite as deep as the Boom 2’s.

What the Soundcore Boom 2 gets right: pretty deep bass for the size, cool lighting in the side passive radiators, and with Oluv’s or Alan Ross’s EQ applied it punches well above its stock-tuning rank of around #24. Set against that: only a single midrange driver (so just the tweeters are true stereo), inconsistent bass at low listening levels, and a bright treble tuning around +5dB.

Buy the Soundcore Boom 2. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Bose SoundLink Max and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

Soundcore Boom 2 ranking card

Pros: Pretty deep bass for the size. Cool lights in the side passive radiators. For the best sound quality use Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ. With the stock tuning, this speaker would rank around #24, due to the boosted bass and rising treble.

Cons: Only a single midrange driver, so you only get stereo for the tweeters. Sound processing issues with inconsistent bass notes that disappear at low levels like the Soundcore Boom and Soundcore Boost, not great for listening at low levels. Quite bass heavy with BassUp turned on, I’d recommend turning it off. A little bit of a bright tuning in the treble, about +5db.
