What the Atlantic Technology 8600eLR does well: A massive sealed tower with four 8 inch woofers, high sensitivity and boundary controls, now discontinued. The tradeoff: The raw preference score is only 2.65, making a subwoofer and correction essential despite the massive cabinet.
The DALI Rubikore 6 is the more accurate, deeper-bass pick. Large floorstanding speakers with an unusual four driver layout, low distortion, solid bass and wide dispersion for an enveloping soundstage. Its measured preference score, a predictor of how neutral it sounds, is 5.27 against 2.65 for the Atlantic Technology 8600eLR. Its bass reaches about 43Hz before falling 3dB, against 68.8Hz for the Atlantic Technology 8600eLR. The catch: On-axis, the treble sits 3-5dB above the midrange (especially around 4kHz), giving a sibilant, hot top end that the manufacturer itself recommends compensating for with 30° of toe-out (firing the speakers straight into the room rather than at the listener).
Buy the DALI Rubikore 6. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Atlantic Technology 8600eLR is discontinued.
