#7 Ascend Acoustics HTM-200SE2: $368/pair Ascend Acoustics eBay
Pros: High-quality manufacturer NFS data shows smooth on-axis behavior and unusually even 80-degree dispersion in both planes. The compact sealed cabinet is easy to place and the 7.11 preference score with a subwoofer is excellent for the price.
Cons: Limited bass is the main tradeoff: Spinorama estimates 87.9Hz at -3dB and about 56Hz at -10dB. These are best paired with a subwoofer, and their small woofers limit deep-bass output.
How it compares: Just above it: XMechanik Mechano23 DIY - $320 cheaper. Just below it: Arendal 1961 Monitor - $782 more.
