Short answer: the Earfun Uboom X. It ranks #1 of 72 boombox speakers by sound quality at $128; the Turtlebox Gen 3 ranks #67 and costs $430, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.
What the Turtlebox Gen 3 gets right: A recognizable rugged design and a loud on-paper spec sheet. The catch: it ranks near the bottom of the boombox class here.
On the Earfun Uboom X side: Tuned by Oluv to be extremely neutral, arguably the best-sounding speaker in the class, with deeper bass and a lower price to go with it. The tradeoff: the out-of-the-box firmware sounds rough until you’re on the current EQ.
Buy the Earfun Uboom X. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Turtlebox Gen 3 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.
If sound quality matters at all to you, skip the Turtlebox Gen 3. It ranks near the bottom of the 72 boombox speakers, so look higher up the list instead.

The Two Speakers In Full
Turtlebox Gen 3: $430 Amazon
Pros: Waterproof and crushproof, loud with punchy bass. 25+ hour battery life. USB-C charging and USB-C output charges other devices. True multi-speaker Party Mode added on top of stereo pairing, plus Bluetooth 5.4.
Cons: Sounds basically identical to the original and the Gen 2: each generation mainly added features, not sound quality. They pretty much lie about all their specs and sound horrible in all youtube sound samples. Will never hit its claimed 120db at a reasonable measuring distance. Putting your db meter right against the speaker doesn’t count, 1 meter distance is the standard. Barely any bass. Rattles at high volume. Looking at it, it appears to be a generic car 2-way 6x9 speaker in a plastic box.

Earfun Uboom X: $128 Discontinued Myearfun Amazon
Pros: Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. Deeper bass than the Stormbox Blast. Extremely neutral, possibly the best of any modern Bluetooth speaker slightly behind the Vifa Helsinki. This is the only speaker that sounds correct at every single volume level due to Oluv’s individual EQ settings at each volume level. Other speakers will need a different EQ at each volume level. Amazing sounding at low levels as it boosts bass and treble at low levels to account for the equal-loudness contour. Just considering the midrange and treble, this speaker is better sounding than the Earfun Uboom L.
Cons: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible. Some people have mentioned sound interruption issues when using 2 in TWS, I don’t have this issue with my Pixel 7 Pro, try disabling AAC in that case. Discontinued.
Setup: Please update it using the Earfun app (Android or iOS) and select an Oluv EQ. The Earfun app has sound profiles created by Oluv for Studio, Indoor, Indoor+, Outdoor, Outdoor+, BOOM xxX, and Ground 0 which are all fantastic. Oluv has a newer firmware pack that brings it up a few more notches of neutral
