Short answer: both are discontinued, so this only matters if you are buying used. Used, the Tribit Stormbox Pro is the better pick: it ranks #46 of 175 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 3.7/5), against #84 (rated 3.3/5) for the Sony XB23. If you want one new, the Sony ULT Field 1 replaces the Sony XB23 and is rated 3.1/5 at $138.

The Tribit Stormbox Pro is the better-sounding, deeper-bass choice. 24 hour battery life (60% volume, XBass off); doubles as a power bank. Its bass reaches about 58Hz before falling 10dB, against 67Hz for the Sony XB23. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 99dB at full volume, against 95dB for the Sony XB23. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 12 for the Sony XB23. Watch for: Bottom woofer was fixed in a later firmware, upgrade for best sound.
The Sony XB23 is the lighter option. Reasonably neutral. At 1.3 lbs (580 g) it weighs much less than the Tribit Stormbox Pro at 2.2 lbs (980 g). It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Tribit Stormbox Pro lacks. It links with other speakers (Party Connect up to 100 speakers), which the Tribit Stormbox Pro cannot. The tradeoff: Bass drops off a ton at high levels.
Buy the Tribit Stormbox Pro only if you find one used in good condition; both are discontinued, and it is the better rated of the two. For a new speaker, buy the Sony ULT Field 1, which replaces the Sony XB23.
Water resistance is not close: the Tribit Stormbox Pro is rated at IPX7 (brief submersion), well ahead of the Sony XB23 at IPX4 (splashing).
