Short answer: the Soundboks 4, if the price is within reach. These rank #29 and #72 out of 75 portable speakers, with the Soundboks 4 at $1199 costing far more than the Turtlebox’s $329.
The Turtlebox’s cons are unusually blunt about its shortcomings. They state it sounds horrible in YouTube sound samples, that the brand’s specs are largely exaggerated, that it’s only rated at 50W and will never hit its claimed loudness at a standard one-meter measuring distance, and that it has barely any bass and rattles at high volume. Its pros still credit it as waterproof and crushproof with punchy bass and a 25 hour battery.
The Soundboks 4 is built for genuinely high output. Its pros describe it as tied for the loudest battery powered speaker available, with high efficiency drivers that reach two to three times the volume of typical speakers for the same wattage, plus a removable 40 hour battery. Its cons are comparatively minor: it’s very large, not as neutral or deep in bass as the top ranked party speakers, and it charges from an external power brick rather than USB-C, the same charging limitation the original Turtlebox has.
Buy the Soundboks 4 for genuinely class-leading loudness and a removable battery, if you can justify the price.
Buy the Turtlebox only if the much lower price is the deciding factor, understanding that its own cons describe weak bass and exaggerated specs.
Skip the Turtlebox if sound quality matters to you. It ranks near the bottom of the 75 boombox speakers.
There is a real battery-life gap here: the Soundboks 4 is rated for 40 hours, the Turtlebox only 25 hours.

Turtlebox: $329 Discontinued Amazon eBay
Pros: Waterproof and crushproof, loud with punchy bass. 25 hour battery life (6 hours at full volume). Pairs with a second unit for stereo.
Cons: Sounds basically identical to the later Gen 2 and Gen 3: each generation mainly added features, not sound quality. They pretty much lie about all their specs and sound horrible in all youtube sound samples. Only 50w (from their indigogo page), will never hit 120db at a reasonable measuring distance. Putting your db meter right against the speaker doesn’t count, 1 meter distance is the standard. Barely any bass. Rattles at high volume. Uses an external AC power brick to charge, before USB-C was added on the Gen 2. Looking at it, it appears to be a generic car 2-way 6x9 speaker in a plastic box. Discontinued.
