Short answer: the Sony ULT Tower 9. It ranks #9 of 12 large party speakers at $748.99, ahead of the SRS-XV900 at #11 and $900, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.
Both speakers share the same core weakness. The ULT Tower 9’s own notes say it does not go as deep in the bass and loses more of it at high volume, even compared with cheaper Partybox speakers. The SRS-XV900’s notes are more pointed still: it loses bass at high volume compared with the Partybox 310 and every other speaker in this comparison. The one credited strength for the ULT Tower 9 is sounding slightly better than the ULT Tower 10; the SRS-XV900’s credited strength is getting slightly louder than a Partybox 310, plus a convenient handle and wheels.
The SRS-XV900 has two extra drivers (nine total, including side tweeters the ULT Tower 9 lacks) and an optical input the ULT Tower 9 does not have, but runs at a lower 100W rated output against the ULT Tower 9’s 148W.
One note: the Sony SRS-XV900 is discontinued and no longer widely available new.
Buy the Sony ULT Tower 9. It ranks higher, costs less, and is the model Sony is still actively selling.
Skip the Sony SRS-XV900 unless you find one at a steep discount secondhand. Sony has moved on from the XV line, and its own notes rate its bass behavior as the weakest of the two.
