The XP500’s own review describes it as the more tonally balanced of the two. Its pros call out a 3-way system with dual passive radiators delivering clear highs, detailed mids, and punchy bass. The XP700’s cons flag a weird midrange peak that the XP500 doesn’t have, along with being slightly less loud and less bass-extended than JBL’s Partybox 310. Despite that, the XP700 still edges ahead in the overall ranking.
Size and hardware explain most of the gap in capability. The XP700 uses dual 6.69 inch woofers plus a multi-tweeter X-Balanced array with a rear-firing tweeter for a 360-degree effect, against the XP500’s smaller dual 140mm woofers and twin tweeters. The XP700 also runs a longer 25 hour battery rating against the XP500’s 20, and reaches a deeper 50Hz bass extension figure on paper against the XP500’s 42Hz, though real-world bass authority is where the XP500’s review claims an edge.
Everything else matches closely: both offer Sony’s Party Connect pairing for up to 100 speakers, karaoke mic and guitar inputs, an EQ app, USB-A power bank output, and IPX4-class splash resistance in similar builds with a carry handle.
Buy the Sony SRS-XP700. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XP500 and costs less, which settles it without a real tradeoff to make.
