The Partybox 310 ranks #4 of 53 party speakers, the SRS-XP700 ranks #14, and the Partybox 310 costs $129.96 more. The JBL Partybox 310 has been replaced by the JBL Partybox 330. If you are buying new, get the JBL Partybox 330.
The Partybox 310’s bass is the standout here. Our notes call it the absolute deepest bass of any battery powered speaker and describe it as the most balanced sound in the class, helped by a handle and wheels for moving it around. Its main drawback is size: our notes simply call it very large.
The SRS-XP700 counters with more speaker hardware, but a rougher tuning. It packs dual 6.69-inch woofers with multi-tweeter X-Balanced Speaker Units, including a rear tweeter for a 360-degree effect, plus a genuinely exceptional 25-hour battery that our notes say runs 18 to 22 hours in the real world with LEDs on. Our notes flag a weird midrange peak, note it’s slightly less loud than the Partybox 310, and say its bass doesn’t reach as deep as the Partybox 310 despite the larger driver count.
Practical differences split cleanly: the Partybox 310 has IPX4 splash resistance where the SRS-XP700 has none, while the SRS-XP700 adds LDAC and AAC Bluetooth codec support against the Partybox 310’s SBC only, plus Sony Party Connect for linking up to 100 speakers, a feature the Partybox 310 lacks.
Buy the JBL Partybox 310 secondhand if deep, balanced bass matters most and you’re comfortable buying a discontinued model.
Buy the Sony SRS-XP700 if you want a currently sold speaker with a longer battery and multi-speaker Party Connect, and can accept a slight step down in bass depth and balance.
There is a real gap in water resistance: the JBL Partybox 310 at IPX4 (splashing) against the Sony SRS-XP700, which has no water resistance.
