Both trail in the low end: the Sony’s upper bass is thuddy, while the Tufton has not much lower bass, boomy upper bass and boosted treble that leave it not very balanced.
Buy the Marshall Tufton, since the Sony SRS-XG500 is discontinued and only worth hunting down used.
There is a real gap in water resistance: the Sony SRS-XG500 at IP66 (powerful water jets) against the Marshall Tufton, which has IPX2 (light drips).
