The case for the Perlisten A3m: A sealed high output monitor with dual 8 inch woofers and a waveguide tweeter, a great match for a subwoofer in a home theater. Watch for: The low-quality vendor Spinorama data measures only 85.8Hz at -3dB, 74.1Hz at -6dB, and 55.7Hz at -12dB, conflicting with Perlisten’s much deeper in-room extension claim.
The MoFi SourcePoint 10 is the deeper-bass choice. A large bookshelf speaker with a 10 inch concentric driver that acts like a point source, with a huge soundstage and strong, clean dynamics. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 3dB, against 85.8Hz for the Perlisten A3m. The tradeoff: Like virtually all coincident designs, sounds notably bright pointed directly on-axis due to a deliberate treble lift (meant to compensate for the 28mm tweeter’s earlier beaming versus a typical 25mm/1” tweeter) combined with a diffraction dip/peak from the waveguide edge; needs about 15° of toe-out to sound neutral, and even then benefits from an extra 1-2dB of treble EQ.
Buy the MoFi SourcePoint 10. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $795 you would save on the Perlisten A3m does not close the gap.
