Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the Ultimate Ears Boom 4, if you are buying new. The Minirig 3 ranks higher than it (#8 vs #110 of 164 medium speakers, 4.3/5 vs 2.9/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 is still sold new at $149.99.

Minirig 3 vs Ultimate Ears Boom 4

The Minirig 3 is the better-sounding, longer-running option. Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 15 for the Ultimate Ears Boom 4. It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 lacks. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 lacks. The catch: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.

The Ultimate Ears Boom 4 is the tougher option. IP67 rated, floats, and finally charges via USB-C instead of the older Booms’ Micro-USB. It is rated IP67 against Splash resistant for the Minirig 3. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Minirig 3. Watch for: Not much improvement over the old ones.

Buy the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 if you want one new; the Minirig 3 is discontinued, so only look for it used.
