Minirig 3 vs Tribit Stormbox 2

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the Tribit Stormbox 2, if you are buying new. The Minirig 3 ranks higher than it (#8 vs #102 of 164 medium speakers, 4.3/5 vs 3.0/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Tribit Stormbox 2 is still sold new at $70.

Minirig 3 vs Tribit Stormbox 2

The Minirig 3 is the better-sounding, louder choice. Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 105dB at full volume, against 99dB for the Tribit Stormbox 2. It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the Tribit Stormbox 2 lacks. Watch for: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.

The Tribit Stormbox 2 is the tougher choice. A little better sounding than the Stormbox 1, less of a rolled off treble. It is rated IPX7 against Splash resistant for the Minirig 3. The tradeoff: Drivers on the side, so it will have a rolled off treble listening to it face on.

Buy the Tribit Stormbox 2 new; the Minirig 3 is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
