Minirig 3 vs JBL Flip 6

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 6, if you are buying new. The Minirig 3 ranks higher than it (#8 vs #13 of 164 medium speakers, 4.3/5 vs 4.2/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the JBL Flip 6 is still sold new at $114.95.

Minirig 3 vs JBL Flip 6

The Minirig 3 is the louder, longer-running pick. Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 105dB at full volume, against 98dB for the JBL Flip 6. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 12 for the JBL Flip 6. It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the JBL Flip 6 lacks. The catch: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.

The JBL Flip 6 is the tougher choice. A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size, a huge sound quality leap over the Flip 5. It is rated IP67 against Splash resistant for the Minirig 3. The tradeoff: Some slight upper mids emphasis.

Buy the JBL Flip 6 new; the Minirig 3 is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
