Short answer: the Marshall Woburn III. It ranks #2 of 20 powered desktop speakers by sound quality, rated 4.1/5, at $449.99. The Marshall Stanmore IV ranks #8, rated 3.8/5, at $429.99, $20 cheaper, a saving that is not big enough to make up the sound-quality gap.
The case for the Marshall Woburn III: At 16.4 lbs (7.44 kg), Marshall Woburn III combines 6” woofer, 2x 2” midranges, 2x 0.75” Dome tweeters with Bluetooth, HDMI ARC, RCA, Aux. The catch: Bass is limited by its ~45Hz specification.
Why pick the Marshall Stanmore IV: A 5 inch woofer on a 60W amplifier and two 0.75 inch tweeters on 25W each, now with waveguides and a redesigned bass port, and Marshall rates it down to 36Hz. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Marshall Woburn III lacks. It links with other speakers (Auracast), which the Marshall Woburn III cannot. Watch for: No independent measurements or side by side comparisons against speakers we rank have been published yet, so it can’t be ranked.
Buy the Marshall Woburn III. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $20 you would save on the Marshall Stanmore IV does not close the gap.
