This pits Marshall’s new Stockwell III against the seven-year-old Stockwell 2 it replaces. The Stockwell III offers a parametric EQ app, a soundstage-widening control, wall/corner placement compensation, a 40+ hour battery that doubles as a USB-C power bank, and IP55 protection for $249.99. The Stockwell 2 offers a simpler mono speaker with no app or EQ, a 20-hour battery and IPX4 protection, for $229.99.
Choose the Stockwell 2 for a more listenable default sound: In an independent A/B comparison, the reviewer preferred the Stockwell 2’s out-of-the-box tuning, since the Stockwell III ran muffled and muddy by default and only partly closed the gap after real EQ work. The Stockwell 2 also held up better at higher volumes, where the Stockwell III loses dynamics and bass and turns harsh.
Choose the Stockwell III for the feature upgrades: Its parametric EQ, soundstage widening, wall/corner compensation, a battery that runs twice as long and works as a power bank, and IP55 dust protection are real upgrades on paper, if you’re willing to put in the EQ work to get there.
Buy the Marshall Stockwell 2. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Marshall Stockwell III and costs less, which settles it without a real tradeoff to make.

Pros: 40+ hour battery life with a user-replaceable battery, strap, sleeve and grilles. Doubles as a USB-C power bank. IP55 dust/water resistance. App includes parametric EQ, a Soundstage widening control, and wall/corner placement compensation. Endless-rotation control knobs.
Cons: Highs are recessed by default and need the treble control maxed to compensate, still lacking detail even then. Bass tends to sound resonant and boomy, with reported frequency cancellation and phase issues on complex material that EQ doesn’t fully resolve. Oluv’s A/B testing against the outgoing Stockwell 2 finds the default tuning muffled and muddy enough to prefer the seven-year-old original out of the box, and output loses dynamics and bass while turning harsh well below maximum volume. No aptX support.
