Short answer: the Partybox 720. At virtually the same price, it ranks #6 of 13 large party speakers against the Tower 10’s #11, and the gap comes down to two things the Tower 10 simply does not have: a battery and bass that holds up at volume.
The Tower 10 cannot be used away from an outlet. Its spec sheet lists no battery at all, while the Partybox 720 runs 15 hours cordless. Our notes call the 720 JBL’s biggest, best sounding battery-powered PartyBox, which is exactly the gap here: if you need this speaker at a park or a driveway rather than plugged into a wall, the Tower 10 is not an option.
Bass behavior is the other clear split. The Tower 10’s own cons note it is not as deep of bass and loses more bass at high volume, even compared to lower end Partybox speakers, with the bass dropping off a lot as you turn it up. The 720 has no such complaint in its notes, and it backs that up with far more rated power: 800W against the Tower 10’s 139W, driven by dual 9 inch woofers versus the Tower 10’s single 12.6 inch woofer plus midrange array. The 720’s own downside is tonal, not structural: it runs somewhat dark by default and needs a treble boost to sound neutral.
What the Tower 10 has going for it: a wireless microphone included in the box, 7 band EQ versus 5 band on the 720, and support for AAC and LDAC over Bluetooth where the 720 is SBC only. Sony also rates it louder than the JBL Partybox Ultimate, a bigger speaker in this same class.
There is a real gap in water resistance too: the Partybox 720 carries an IPX4 rating for splashes, while the Tower 10 has no water resistance rating at all.
Buy the Partybox 720 if you want cordless operation, deeper bass that holds up loud, and some splash protection, at essentially the same price.
Buy the Tower 10 if it will always stay near an outlet, you want the included wireless mic, or you specifically want AAC/LDAC codec support and a finer 7 band EQ.
