JBL Flip 7 vs Sony SRS-XB30

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 7. It ranks #14 of 136 medium speakers by sound quality at $129.95; the Sony SRS-XB30 ranks #104 and costs $199, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

On the JBL Flip 7 side: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size. Just slightly more treble than the Flip 6 which was already a great speaker. The tradeoff: A little bit of a bump at 4khz, not quite as neutral as the FLip 6. I believe this one is slightly worse than the Flip 6.

What the Sony SRS-XB30 offers: IPX5 rated. Doubles as a power bank for charging your phone. Long claimed battery life (up to 24 hours at moderate volume). Set against that: Muffled sound, worse than a XB20.

Buy the JBL Flip 7. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XB30 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

If sound quality matters at all to you, skip the Sony SRS-XB30. It ranks near the bottom of the 136 medium speakers, so look higher up the list instead.

If battery life is a priority, the Sony SRS-XB30 is rated for 24 hours versus 14 hours for the JBL Flip 7.

If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Flip 7 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the Sony SRS-XB30 at IPX5 (water jets).
