JBL Flip 7 vs Minirig 2

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the Minirig 2 for better sound quality, the JBL Flip 7 for the lower price. The Minirig 2 ranks #8 of 136 medium speakers at $140. The JBL Flip 7 ranks #14 at $129.95, $10.05 cheaper.

What the JBL Flip 7 offers: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size. Just slightly more treble than the Flip 6 which was already a great speaker. The catch: A little bit of a bump at 4khz, not quite as neutral as the FLip 6. I believe this one is slightly worse than the Flip 6.

On the Minirig 2 side: Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. The tradeoff: Not stereo. Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.

Buy the JBL Flip 7 if the price matters more than sound quality. Buy the Minirig 2 if sound quality matters more than the price.

If battery life is a priority, the Minirig 2 is rated for 40 hours versus 14 hours for the JBL Flip 7.

If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Flip 7 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the Minirig 2 at Splash resistant (splashing).
