JBL Flip 7 vs LG Xboom Go PL5

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 7. It ranks #14 of 136 medium speakers by sound quality at $129.95; the LG Xboom Go PL5 ranks #114 and costs $289, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

What the JBL Flip 7 gets right: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size. Just slightly more treble than the Flip 6 which was already a great speaker. Set against that: A little bit of a bump at 4khz, not quite as neutral as the FLip 6. I believe this one is slightly worse than the Flip 6.

On the LG Xboom Go PL5 side: 18 hour battery life; IPX5 rated. LED lights sync to music via the LG XBOOM app; Wireless Party Link connects up to 100 speakers. The catch: Barely any bass. 14khz peak, bright on top. Soundboost mode makes the top end even harsher.

Buy the JBL Flip 7. It ranks higher for sound quality than the LG Xboom Go PL5 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

If sound quality matters at all to you, skip the LG Xboom Go PL5. It ranks near the bottom of the 136 medium speakers, so look higher up the list instead.

If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Flip 7 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the LG Xboom Go PL5 at IPX5 (water jets).
