JBL Flip 7 vs JBL Flip 5

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 7 for better sound quality, the JBL Flip 5 for the lower price. The JBL Flip 7 ranks #14 of 136 medium speakers at $129.95. The JBL Flip 5 ranks #62 at $89.95, $40 cheaper.

The case for the JBL Flip 7: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size. Just slightly more treble than the Flip 6 which was already a great speaker. Set against that: A little bit of a bump at 4khz, not quite as neutral as the FLip 6. I believe this one is slightly worse than the Flip 6.

What the JBL Flip 5 gets right: Compact and light (1.1 lb) with a carry lanyard. Charges via USB-C, topping off in about 2.5 hours. Watch for: Not stereo. Boosted upper bass. Piercing sound when turned up. Peaky lower treble at higher volumes.

Buy the JBL Flip 7 if sound quality matters more than the price. Buy the JBL Flip 5 if the price matters more than sound quality.
