JBL Flip 6 vs JBL Go 5

Last updated: October 14, 2026

Different classes, so treat this as a step-up-or-not question rather than a head-to-head. The JBL Flip 6 ranks #13 of 175 medium speakers by sound quality at $79.95; the JBL Go 5 ranks #29 of 62 small speakers by sound quality at $34.95.

JBL Flip 6 vs JBL Go 5

The JBL Flip 6 is the longer-running option. A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size, a huge sound quality leap over the JBL Flip 5. It is rated for 12 hours of battery against 8 for the JBL Go 5. The catch: Some slight upper mids emphasis.

The JBL Go 5 is the lighter pick. IP68 rating, up from the JBL Go 4’s IP67. At 0.5 lbs (230 g) it weighs much less than the JBL Flip 6 at 1.2 lbs (544 g). It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the JBL Flip 6. The tradeoff: Still overpriced for what it delivers, not very different from the JBL Go 4 besides the lights.

Buy the JBL Flip 6 at $79.95 if you want a medium speaker. Buy the JBL Go 5 at $34.95 if you want a small speaker instead.

Older models: the JBL Flip 5 (ranked lower, rated 3.3/5) and the JBL Flip 4 (ranked lower, rated 3.3/5). See every JBL Flip generation.

Pros: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size, a huge sound quality leap over the JBL Flip 5. Measured bass extension of 56Hz (-10dB).

JBL Go 5 ranking card

Older models: the JBL Go 4 (ranked lower, rated 3.2/5) and the JBL Go 3 (ranked lower, rated 3.2/5). See every JBL Go generation.

Pros: IP68 rating, up from the JBL Go 4’s IP67. AirTouch tap-to-pair stereo linking. 7-band custom app EQ, up from the JBL Go 4’s 5-band. USB-C wired audio input.

Cons: Still overpriced for what it delivers, not very different from the JBL Go 4 besides the lights. Still lacking bass and not very clear overall. Mono downmixing produces an audible growling artifact, the same issue noted on the JBL Charge 6. Falls well short of similarly priced rivals like the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. Weak off-axis dispersion and an uneven, upper-mid-heavy tonal balance. Doesn’t get meaningfully louder at max volume, just harsher.
