Short answer: the Minirig Mini 2 for sound, the JBL Clip 5 for features. The Mini 2 is very neutral with much deeper bass than most speakers in the size, and it is modular enough to easily attach a subwoofer. It only calls itself splash resistant with no official water rating and its app is buggy. The Clip 5 adds a custom EQ, a wider carabiner and thicker back padding than the Clip 4, but its sound is more of the same from the series.
Buy the Minirig Mini 2. It is rated higher for sound quality, and saving $40.05 with the JBL Clip 5 does not make up for the sound-quality gap.
If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Clip 5 at IP67 (brief submersion) holds up far better than the Minirig Mini 2 at Splash resistant (splashing).
