The Bose Soundlink Flex is the better-sounding, deeper-bass choice. IP67 rated; rugged enough to survive drops from several feet and floats. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 10dB, against 68Hz for the JBL Grip. The catch: Warm sounding with overly boosted bass which drowns out midrange detail.
The JBL Grip is the lighter pick. Ambient light on the back with settable themes. At 0.8 lbs (385 g) it weighs noticeably less than the Bose Soundlink Flex at 1.3 lbs (589 g). It has an adjustable EQ, which the Bose Soundlink Flex lacks. The catch: Lacking deeper bass, definitely the worst of the JBL line until you get to the smaller clip.
Buy the Bose Soundlink Flex. It is rated higher for sound quality, and saving $59.05 with the JBL Grip does not make up for the sound-quality gap.
