#18 Monolith THX-365C: $499.99 each Discontinued eBay
Pros: A THX Ultra certified sealed three-way center with a 1” silk dome tweeter, a 2” silk dome midrange and two 6.5” woofers. Erin’s Audio Corner measured a listening window within 2.3dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, a smooth predicted in-room response (0.84) and wide coverage (about ±60 degrees horizontally), for a preference score of 4.38 that reaches 7.37 with an ideal subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 82.0Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Bass rolls off at 82Hz (-3dB) and about 55Hz (-10dB), so it needs a subwoofer. The 4 ohm load needs a capable receiver. Monoprice has wound down the Monolith speaker line. Discontinued.
How it compares: Just above it: Pioneer SP-C22 - $425 cheaper, 1.5Hz lower bass extension (-3dB). Just below it: KEF Reference 4c - $7000 more, 0.5Hz higher bass extension (-3dB).
