Pros: A slim 2.5-way tower with two 5-inch woofers and a 1-inch tweeter in a shallow waveguide, with a front slot port so it can sit closer to a wall. Its 8-ohm load stays close to 8 ohms across the range in Erin’s Audio Corner’s measurements, so any receiver drives it easily, and harmonic distortion stays under 0.5% above 200Hz at an 85dB level. Metal fasteners on top accept Jamo’s S8 ATM Dolby Atmos elevation module. Measured bass extension of 51.9Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 84dB.
Cons: Erin’s Audio Corner’s measurements show a smiley-face tuning: boosted bass around 80Hz and boosted treble with the dialogue range sitting 3 to 5dB lower, plus a resonance near 400Hz. The listening window spans 4.6dB between 300Hz and 5kHz, the predicted in-room response is rough (0.39 smoothness) and the preference score is 3.84 (5.94 with an ideal subwoofer). Measured sensitivity is about 84dB against the 90dB claim, and it loses about 2dB to compression at 40Hz at loud listening levels. Erin’s verdict was not to buy it. Jamo has phased out the Studio 8 series it belongs to, so it is mainly a used buy. Discontinued.
