#52 JBL Stage A125C: $119.95 each Discontinued eBay
Newer model: the JBL Stage 2 245C, ranked lower, estimated 3.2/5.
Pros: A low cost sealed two-way center with a 1” aluminum tweeter in JBL’s HDI waveguide between two 5.25” woofers. Audio Science Review measured low on-axis deviation (0.28) and a listening window within 2.7dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, and the score reaches 6.00 with an ideal subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 98.1Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Bass rolls off at 98.1Hz (-3dB) and about 59Hz (-10dB), and the predicted in-room response is not smooth (0.46), so its preference score without a subwoofer is 2.86. JBL replaced the Stage line with Stage 2. Discontinued.
How it compares: Just above it: Emotiva Airmotiv C1+ - $179 more, 1Hz higher bass extension (-3dB). Just below it: JBL Studio 520C - $230 more.
