#141 Meze 105 Silva: $499.00 Amazon $499.00 eBay

Pros: An open back with walnut cups at about $499 with a preference score of 82 across two measurements. The midrange and treble stay close to target, it is easy to drive at 42 ohms and 112 dB/mW, and a USB C DAC adapter is included.

Cons: Sub bass is 4.0 dB below target at 30 Hz, so the deepest notes are light, and a 3 dB upper bass bump can add warmth. An 8.2 dB dip near 8.9 kHz takes some sparkle off cymbals.

Is the Meze 105 Silva right for you?

Buy it if

  • you want the tuning most listeners prefer in blind tests out of the box (Harman score 82).

Skip it if

  • you need isolation or will use it in public: open-back headphones leak sound both ways.
  • you want the best value: the higher-rated Kiwi Ears x Z Reviews Serene costs about $388 less.

Frequency Response

How the Meze 105 Silva measures across the audible range, against the Harman over-ear target that most listeners prefer in blind tests. Where the line sits above the target that range sounds louder (more bass, brighter treble), below it quieter. The curve is the average of 2 independent measurements, and both lines are shifted so their 500 Hz to 2 kHz average sits at 0 dB.
