Short answer: the Xiaomi Sound Party. It ranks #20 of 177 medium speakers by sound quality, rated 4.1/5, at $149.99. The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 ranks #108, rated 2.9/5, at $64.99, $85 cheaper, not enough of a saving to outweigh the sound-quality gap.
The Xiaomi Sound Party is the better-sounding, longer-running option. A versatile outdoor speaker with warm, balanced sound, fully waterproof build, long battery life, a phone charging port and a handy retractable handle. It is rated for 26 hours of battery against 14 for the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4. It links with other speakers (Party Connect, up to 100 speakers), which the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 cannot. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 lacks. Watch for: The sound evidence is mixed rather than universally glowing.
The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 is the lighter option. A small, tough waterproof speaker with a strap loop and USB-C charging, easy to clip on a bag for outdoor trips. At 0.9 lbs (420 g) it weighs much less than the Xiaomi Sound Party at 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg). The tradeoff: Bass isn’t as deep as the top-ranked speakers and is a little thuddy.
Buy the Xiaomi Sound Party. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $85 you would save on the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 does not close the gap.
