The Xiaomi Sound Party is the better-sounding, deeper-bass option. A versatile outdoor speaker with warm, balanced sound, fully waterproof build, long battery life, a phone charging port and a handy retractable handle. Its bass reaches about 54Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the Sonos Roam. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 102dB at full volume, against 95dB for the Sonos Roam. It is rated for 26 hours of battery against 10 for the Sonos Roam. The catch: The sound evidence is mixed rather than universally glowing.
The Sonos Roam is the lighter option. A small, waterproof Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker with wireless charging, voice control and Sonos multiroom support. At 0.9 lbs (429 g) it weighs much less than the Xiaomi Sound Party at 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg). It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Xiaomi Sound Party lacks. The catch: Bass extension isn’t very good.
Buy the Xiaomi Sound Party. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the Sonos Roam is discontinued, so it is only available used.
