What the Xiaomi Sound Party does well: A versatile outdoor speaker with warm, balanced sound, fully waterproof build, long battery life, a phone charging port and a handy retractable handle. The tradeoff: The sound evidence is mixed rather than universally glowing.
The Huawei Sound Joy is the lighter pick. A waterproof speaker with a separate tweeter, long battery life and good loudness, with a Devialet mode for its best sound. At 1.5 lbs (680 g) it weighs much less than the Xiaomi Sound Party at 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg). It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Xiaomi Sound Party lacks. Watch for: Boosted treble, not quite as deep of bass as a JBL Charge 5.
Buy the Xiaomi Sound Party. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the Huawei Sound Joy is discontinued, so it is only available used.
