The generational upgrade is straightforward. Both use the same 40mm driver and passive radiator layout and weigh the same 420 grams, but the Wonderboom 4 charges over USB-C instead of the older model’s Micro USB, runs a newer Bluetooth 5.2 versus 5.1, and gets two more hours of rated battery life at 14 hours versus 12. Our notes on the Wonderboom 2 call out barely any bass and recessed treble, while the Wonderboom 4’s own weak point is milder: bass that isn’t as deep as the top-ranked speakers in its class and a little thuddy.

Buy the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 for the newer charging port, better battery life, and lower price, with no real downside versus the older model.

Pros: IP67 rated and floats. Compact and light enough to toss in a bag. Measured bass extension of 82Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not stereo, barely any bass, recessed treble. Slightly boosted 93Hz upper bass Dip at 9kHz. You can tell from the micro USB that they are just feeding you the same crap hardware over and over, this is inexcusable for a product released in 2019. Not technically a 360 speaker, only front and rear.
