Short answer: the Soundcore Motion 300 unless the Wonderboom 4’s smaller size and floating design matter more to you. The Motion 300 ranks #95 of 150 medium portable speakers, near the very top of its class, while the Wonderboom 4 sits at #2. The price gap between them is $20.
The Wonderboom 4’s main selling point is its compact, spherical form factor, and its pros come down mostly to that small size. Its bass doesn’t reach as deep as top-ranked speakers and sounds a little thuddy, and beyond switching to USB-C charging, it isn’t much of an upgrade over the previous Wonderboom 3.
The Motion 300 does more with its shape and its software. It reaches deeper into the bass for its size, and its orientation-sensing design lets it apply a different custom EQ depending on whether it’s standing up, lying flat, or hanging, along with a stereo mode when it’s facing you or an omnidirectional mode lying down. Its stock tuning does roll off in the treble though, enough that reviewers note it needs the top two treble EQ bands raised (or a third-party EQ preset) to sound its best; without that adjustment its measured position would land closer to the middle of the pack rather than near the top. There’s also some slight bass distortion when pushed to higher volumes, and BassUp mode is reportedly worse than the standard Signature tuning.
Feature-wise, the Motion 300 is the more capable speaker across the board: it has an app with a 9-band adjustable EQ, LDAC codec support, a built-in microphone, true stereo pairing with a second unit, and PartyCast linking, none of which the Wonderboom 4 offers.
Buy the Soundcore Motion 300 if sound quality is the priority. Its bass and orientation-aware EQ put it near the top of its class, and applying a treble-boosting EQ preset gets the most out of it.
Buy the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 if you specifically want the smallest, most pocketable speaker that floats, and sound quality is a secondary concern.

Pros: Pretty deep bass for the small size. Pocket size in a big pocket. Can be used in stereo facing you, or omnidirectional lying down. Ability to have a custom EQ for each orientation, standing, lying flat, hanging. Try the Uboom L EQs from Oluv for a more neutral sound. Measured bass extension of 50Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Without the above EQ or turning the top 2 treble EQ bars to max, this speaker is very rolled off in the treble and will rank around #50 in the rankings. Bassup mode is worse than Signature. Not quite as detailed or neutral as higher ranked speakers. Slight bass distortion when turned up.
