The Megaboom 4’s problems go beyond a rough tuning. If battery life matters more than sound to you, the tradeoff runs the other way: the Megaboom 4 is rated for 20 hours against the Ranger’s 12-plus, and the Ranger’s per-unit price is higher despite it being the better-sounding speaker.
Buy the Turtlebox Ranger if sound quality matters at all. Its bass isn’t class-leading, but it’s a meaningfully more competent speaker than the Megaboom 4.
Buy the Ultimate Ears Megaboom 4 only if battery life, floating in water, or PartyUp syncing with other UE speakers outweighs sound quality for your use case.
