The Turtlebox Grande is the bigger, longer-running box. A 10-inch woofer and titanium tweeter play in stereo, a 158Wh battery is rated for about 25 hours, and the IP67 crush-proof shell is built for job sites and boats. Its bass is shallow for that woofer, falling 10dB by about 55Hz. It charges only from its own barrel-plug adapter.
The Defender is the cheaper rugged option, and it floats. It is about half the Grande’s weight, charges over USB-C, and adds a flashlight, a bottle opener and three EQ presets. Testing found it very loud for its size. Its single front driver beams narrowly, so detail drops as you move off to the side. Unlike the Grande, it has no party mode.
Buy the Turtlebox Grande if sound quality matters more than the price. Buy the EcoXGear Defender if the price matters more than sound quality.
