Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 vs Sony SRS-XB100

The Stormbox Micro 2 is the best-sounding speaker in its size class. It is very neutral, with much deeper bass than most rivals from its 48mm driver, and it gets louder at 94dB. Its built-in strap clips onto bags and handlebars, and it has a 9-band app EQ. Its phone-charging output is unreliable.

The XB100 is lighter, with the longer battery. At 0.6 lbs (274 g) with a clip strap, it is easy to carry, testing found about 17 hours of real battery life, and it supports AAC and stereo pairing. Its 2.5W driver produces little bass and it has no app or EQ. Both are rated IP67 and charge over USB-C.

Buy the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XB100 and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.

Pros: Best in class sound. Much deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Very neutral. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back. Measured bass extension of 65Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.

Setup: Use in Music EQ mode, when you switch to custom it’s not able to boost the bass properly as it is missing an EQ band that Music EQ mode uses
