Short answer: the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. It ranks #1 of 62 small speakers by sound quality (rated 4.5/5) at $39.99 and is still sold new; the JBL Clip ranks #46 (rated 2.7/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used. The JBL Clip’s replacement, the JBL Clip 5, is rated 3.4/5 at $49.95.
The Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass choice. Best in class sound. Its bass reaches about 65Hz before falling 10dB, against 95Hz for the JBL Clip. It is rated for 12 hours of battery against 5 for the JBL Clip. It is rated IP67, while the JBL Clip has no water resistance. The catch: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.
The JBL Clip is the lighter choice. Very compact and light (5.3 oz) with an integrated carabiner. At 0.3 lbs (158 g) it weighs much less than the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 at 0.7 lbs (317 g). It keeps a wired aux input, which the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 lacks. The catch: Quite a lack of bass.
Buy the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. It is rated higher for sound quality; the JBL Clip is no longer sold new.

Pros: Best in class sound. Much deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Very neutral. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back. Measured bass extension of 65Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.
Setup: Use in Music EQ mode, when you switch to custom it’s not able to boost the bass properly as it is missing an EQ band that Music EQ mode uses
