These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Tribit Stormbox Lava ranks #3 of 78 large speakers by sound quality at $100; the Xiaomi Sound Party ranks #19 of 142 medium speakers by sound quality at $133.62.

What the Stormbox Lava gets right: an IP67 speaker with 44Hz of measured -10dB extension, a 10-band app EQ, an aux input and a 24-hour claimed battery. Independent reviews find it loud with impactful bass. The catch: XBass can make the low end muddy, clarity falls at maximum volume, it is heavy for its size, and the front-facing design gives a narrow soundstage.
The case for the Sound Party: a 1.2 kg IP67 speaker with USB-C power-bank output, NFC pairing, lights and a claimed 26-hour battery, described by several reviews as warm and balanced with clear vocals. Watch for: one lab review found it flat and unclean, Bass Boost sounds boomy, and tested output is modest for a large party.
Buy the Tribit Stormbox Lava at $100 if you want a large speaker. Buy the Xiaomi Sound Party at $133.62 if you want a medium speaker instead.

The Two Speakers In Full
Tribit Stormbox Lava: $100 Amazon Aliexpress eBay
Pros: A powerful, IP67-rated portable speaker with a measured 44Hz -10dB bass point, 10-band app EQ, aux input and 24-hour claimed battery life. Independent reviews find that it gets loud with impactful bass, and careful EQ or current firmware can produce relatively clean sound through the mids and highs. Measured bass extension of 44Hz (-10dB).
Cons: XBass can make the low end muddy and obscure vocals, while the deepest notes lose authority and clarity falls at maximum volume. It is heavy for its size, its front-facing design has a narrow soundstage, and one review noted a brief sound interruption while changing volume; use a restrained EQ rather than expecting neutral sound out of the box.
Setup: Try out the Alan Ross EQ’s at this timestamp in his video There’s also a max bass EQ from Oluv and you can turn down the lowest slider for it to be more neutral

Xiaomi Sound Party: $133.62 Aliexpress eBay
Pros: An unusually versatile 1.2kg outdoor speaker: IP67 dust/water protection, USB-C power-bank output, NFC pairing, lights, stereo pairing and a claimed 26-hour battery life. Several independent reviews describe a warm, generally balanced sound with clear vocals and useful bass impact when Bass Boost is off. It is also easy to carry thanks to the retractable handle. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-10dB).
Cons: The sound evidence is mixed rather than universally glowing. One lab review found it loud but flat and unclean with blurred treble, while others hear the Bass Boost mode as boomy upper bass that can bottom out at high volume. It is not the strongest choice for a large party: tested output is around 94dB and rivals such as the Soundcore Boom 2 play louder with deeper bass. SBC is the only Bluetooth codec and there is no aux input.
