Tribit Stormbox Lava vs Tribit Stormbox Blast

Last updated: October 10, 2026

These are not really the same size class, and that is the honest framing here. The Tribit Stormbox Lava ranks #3 of 103 large speakers by sound quality at $100; the Tribit Stormbox Blast ranks #2 of 91 boombox speakers by sound quality at $199.99.

Tribit Stormbox Lava vs Tribit Stormbox Blast

The Tribit Stormbox Lava is the lighter pick. A powerful, IP67-rated portable speaker with a measured 44Hz -10dB bass point, 10-band app EQ, aux input and 24-hour claimed battery life. At 5.2 lbs (2.37 kg) it weighs much less than the Tribit Stormbox Blast at 12 lbs (5.45 kg). It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Tribit Stormbox Blast lacks. Watch for: XBass can make the low end muddy and obscure vocals, while the deepest notes lose authority and clarity falls at maximum volume.

Why pick the Tribit Stormbox Blast: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a JBL Partybox 100. Watch for: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz.

Buy the Tribit Stormbox Lava ($100) for a large speaker; the Tribit Stormbox Blast ($199.99) suits a boombox speaker instead.

Tribit Stormbox Lava ranking card

Pros: A powerful, IP67-rated portable speaker with a measured 44Hz -10dB bass point, 10-band app EQ, aux input and 24-hour claimed battery life. Independent reviews find that it gets loud with impactful bass, and careful EQ or current firmware can produce relatively clean sound through the mids and highs. Measured bass extension of 44Hz (-10dB).

Cons: XBass can make the low end muddy and obscure vocals, while the deepest notes lose authority and clarity falls at maximum volume. It is heavy for its size, its front-facing design has a narrow soundstage, and one review noted a brief sound interruption while changing volume.

Setup: Update the firmware to version 2 or later first, since version 2 was a big step up in sound quality. Then try out the Alan Ross EQ’s at this timestamp in his video. There’s also a max bass EQ from Oluv and you can turn down the lowest slider for it to be more neutral.

Tribit Stormbox Blast ranking card

Newer model: the Tribit Stormbox Blast 2, ranked lower, rated 3.8/5, released Oct 2024. It adds AAC. See every Tribit Stormbox generation.

Same family: the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 (smaller model, rated 4.5/5), the Tribit Stormbox Flow (smaller model, rated 3.5/5) and the Tribit Stormbox Pro (smaller model, rated 3.7/5).

Pros: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a JBL Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5kHz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.
