Tribit Stormbox Lava vs Dali Katch G1

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the Tribit Stormbox Lava. It ranks #3 of 102 large speakers by sound quality (rated 4.6/5) at $100 and is still sold new; the Dali Katch G1 ranks #83 (rated 2.8/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used.

Tribit Stormbox Lava vs Dali Katch G1

The Tribit Stormbox Lava is the better-sounding pick. A powerful, IP67-rated portable speaker with a measured 44Hz -10dB bass point, 10-band app EQ, aux input and 24-hour claimed battery life. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Dali Katch G1 lacks. The tradeoff: XBass can make the low end muddy and obscure vocals, while the deepest notes lose authority and clarity falls at maximum volume.

The Dali Katch G1 is the lighter option. Pretty neutral. At 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg) it weighs much less than the Tribit Stormbox Lava at 5.2 lbs (2.37 kg). It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the Tribit Stormbox Lava lacks. The catch: Loses bass quickly after 40% volume.

Buy the Tribit Stormbox Lava. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Dali Katch G1 is discontinued.

Tribit Stormbox Lava ranking card

Pros: A powerful, IP67-rated portable speaker with a measured 44Hz -10dB bass point, 10-band app EQ, aux input and 24-hour claimed battery life. Independent reviews find that it gets loud with impactful bass, and careful EQ or current firmware can produce relatively clean sound through the mids and highs. Measured bass extension of 44Hz (-10dB).

Cons: XBass can make the low end muddy and obscure vocals, while the deepest notes lose authority and clarity falls at maximum volume. It is heavy for its size, its front-facing design has a narrow soundstage, and one review noted a brief sound interruption while changing volume; use a restrained EQ rather than expecting neutral sound out of the box.

Setup: Try out the Alan Ross EQ’s at this timestamp in his video There’s also a max bass EQ from Oluv and you can turn down the lowest slider for it to be more neutral

Dali Katch G1 ranking card

Newer model: the Dali Katch G2, ranked higher, rated 2.8/5.

Pros: Pretty neutral

Cons: Loses bass quickly after 40% volume. A lot of compression artifacts at high volume. External AC power brick for charging. Discontinued, superseded by the Dali Katch G2, which sounds nearly identical. Reverb added to the output screws up the imaging. Quite a hollow character to the sound.
