Short answer: the Stormbox Micro 2, clearly. These rank #27 and #1 out of 47 small portable speakers, at $22.99 and $34.19, and Tribit’s own step-up model is the far better-reviewed of the two.
The Stormbox Micro 2 is our own pick for best-in-class sound in this size. Our notes call it very neutral with much deeper bass than most speakers its size - a real step above the entry-level PocketGo, whose bass fullness comes at the cost of overall polish and whose frequency response is less refined.
The PocketGo answers with price, battery, and durability. It costs a fraction of the Stormbox Micro 2, runs longer on a charge (20 hours against 12), and edges it slightly on paper with an IP68 rating against IP67. The Stormbox Micro 2’s own weak point is finicky USB-C phone charging that our notes say usually doesn’t work - not an issue on the PocketGo, which doesn’t offer power-bank output at all.
Buy the Stormbox Micro 2 if sound quality is the priority - it’s genuinely one of the better speakers in this size class. Buy the PocketGo if you want something disposable-cheap with longer battery life and don’t need the extra polish.
If battery life is a priority, the Tribit PocketGo is rated for 20 hours versus 12 hours for the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2.

Pros: Fuller low end than the JBL Go 5, despite the JBL’s clearer, more typical JBL sound. Costs about half the price of the JBL Go 5. Can stand, hang from its loop, or lay flat on its feet for flexible placement. About on par with the Soundcore Select 4 Go, and a touch louder at lower volumes. App support with signature EQ and customization.
Cons: Battery life isn’t the biggest for this speaker class. JBL Go 5 has better build quality plus lightshow, Auracast, and AirTouch. Loses more bass than the Soundcore Select 4 Go at maximum volume. Slightly nasal quality to the sound.

Tribit Stormbox Micro 2: $34.19 Aliexpress Amazon
Pros: Best in class sound. Much deeper bass than most other speakers in the size. Built in strap is super useful for attaching it to things. Very neutral. To have it aimed directly at you unclip the strap and the speaker will sit upright with a slight lean back.
Cons: Finicky phone charging, which doesn’t usually work.
Setup: Use in Music EQ mode, when you switch to custom it’s not able to boost the bass properly as it is missing an EQ band that Music EQ mode uses
