Short answer: the Soundcore Motion 300. It ranks #3 of 177 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 4.5/5) at $79.99 and is still sold new; the Sonos Roam ranks #95 (rated 3.1/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used. The Sonos Roam’s replacement, the Sonos Roam 2, is rated 3.2/5 at $179.
The Soundcore Motion 300 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass option. A compact stereo speaker with deep bass for its size, hi res Bluetooth and a custom EQ for each position, standing or lying down. Its bass reaches about 50Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the Sonos Roam. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 101dB at full volume, against 95dB for the Sonos Roam. It is rated IPX7 against IPX5 for the Sonos Roam. The catch: Without the above EQ or turning the top 2 treble EQ bars to max, this speaker is very rolled off in the treble and will rank around #50 in the rankings.
The Sonos Roam is the lighter choice. A small, waterproof Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker with wireless charging, voice control and Sonos multiroom support. At 0.9 lbs (429 g) it weighs much less than the Soundcore Motion 300 at 1.7 lbs (772 g). The catch: Bass extension isn’t very good.
Buy the Soundcore Motion 300. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the Sonos Roam is discontinued, so it is only available used.
