The Stormbox Blast’s notes are genuinely enthusiastic for its size. They call it an amazing speaker given its footprint, competing well with speakers in the larger party size class, with bass almost as deep as a JBL Partybox 100. It measures quite neutral in both default and xbass modes, and the reviewer points to community EQ profiles that Tribit has since folded into its own firmware defaults. Its real flaw is a lack of fine detail next to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, with a dip around 5.5kHz.
The ULT Field 7’s own notes are far more modest. They describe it as better sounding than Sony’s own XG500, but still not reaching the bass depth of the top ranked speakers in its class, with an 8kHz peak noted as a flaw. Its measured bass extension of about 52Hz trails the Stormbox Blast’s 43Hz.
What the ULT Field 7 does add: LDAC codec support alongside SBC and AAC, where the Stormbox Blast is SBC only, plus a slightly higher IP67 rating against the Blast’s IPX7.
Buy the Tribit Stormbox Blast for dramatically better measured sound at a fraction of the price.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 7 only if LDAC codec support for a compatible phone is a hard requirement for you.
