Short answer: the Sony ULT Field 7. It ranks #61 of 112 boombox speakers by sound quality, rated 3.2/5, at $448. The EcoXGear Defender ranks #84, rated 2.5/5, at $299.99, $148.01 cheaper, which does not close the gap in sound quality.
The Sony ULT Field 7 is the better-sounding option. A waterproof stereo party speaker with a 30 hour battery and karaoke mic and guitar inputs. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the EcoXGear Defender lacks. It links with other speakers (Party Connect up to 100 speakers), which the EcoXGear Defender cannot. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the EcoXGear Defender. The tradeoff: A peak around 8kHz, and bass does not reach as deep as the top-ranked speakers.
The EcoXGear Defender is the lighter option. A rugged, floating waterproof speaker that gets very loud for its size, with a flashlight, bottle opener and power bank. At 10 lbs (4.54 kg) it weighs noticeably less than the Sony ULT Field 7 at 13.9 lbs (6.3 kg). The catch: Its single front-facing driver layout has narrow dispersion: clarity and detail drop noticeably when you move off-axis, and the soundstage is limited.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 7. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $148.01 saving on the EcoXGear Defender is not enough to make up the difference.
