Short answer: the Minirig 4 with subwoofer. It ranks #5 of 115 large speakers by sound quality (rated 4.6/5) at $290 and is still sold new; the Sony SRS-XB43 ranks #57 (rated 3.5/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used. The Sony SRS-XB43’s replacement, the Sony ULT Field 5, is rated 3.5/5 at $268.
The Sony SRS-XB43 is the tougher option. A waterproof party speaker with lights, a long battery and an Extra Bass mode for heavier low end. It is rated IP67 against Splash resistant for the Minirig 4 with subwoofer. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Minirig 4 with subwoofer lacks. It links with other speakers (Party Connect up to 100 speakers), which the Minirig 4 with subwoofer cannot. The tradeoff: Not as loud as others in the category.
The Minirig 4 with subwoofer is the better-sounding, lighter option. A compact speaker and wireless subwoofer pair with some of the most balanced sound available, a long battery and deep, impactful bass. At 3.2 lbs (1.44 kg) it weighs much less than the Sony SRS-XB43 at 6.5 lbs (2.95 kg). The catch: Not stereo, app is buggy.
Buy the Minirig 4 with subwoofer. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Sony SRS-XB43 is discontinued.
