Short answer: the Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt. It ranks #46 of 73 subwoofers by sound quality (rated 3.2/5) at $224.99 and is still sold new; the Jamo SUB 800 ranks #59 (rated 2.9/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used.
The Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt is the better-sounding pick. A low cost ported 8 inch subwoofer with a 200 watt amp, an easy entry point for a first subwoofer. The catch: Very compact 18.5 lbs (8.4 kg) size, limited 106.4 dB output, ported room interaction, and entry-level build.
The case for the Jamo SUB 800: A tiny cube subwoofer with a passive radiator that adds bass to a small 2.1 or satellite system without taking up floor space. The catch: Its small driver and cabinet run out of steam in the deepest bass: measured output falls to 84.1dB at 31.5Hz and 95.1dB at 40Hz.
Buy the Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt. It is rated higher for sound quality; the Jamo SUB 800 is no longer sold new.
