Short answer: the Soundcore Boom 3i, if you are buying new. The Minirig 2 ranks higher than it (#9 vs #31 of 164 medium speakers, 4.3/5 vs 4.0/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Soundcore Boom 3i is still sold new at $118.99.
The Minirig 2 is the longer-running, lighter pick. Modular, can easily attach a subwoofer. It is rated for 40 hours of battery against 16 for the Soundcore Boom 3i. At 1.1 lbs (488 g) it weighs much less than the Soundcore Boom 3i at 1.7 lbs (783 g). It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the Soundcore Boom 3i lacks. The catch: Calls itself splash resistant and has no official water rating.
The Soundcore Boom 3i is the tougher pick. Looks to be designed as a direct competitor to the Charge 5 with a very similar sound profile, warm tuned with boosted bass. It is rated IP68 against Splash resistant for the Minirig 2. The tradeoff: Not quite as good as a Charge 5, doesn’t go quite as loud or sound quite as balanced, but very very close.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 3i new; the Minirig 2 is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
